Conversations with Architects

In the Age of Celebrity

The New York-based author Vladimir Belogolovsky gives a detailed picture of contemporary architects – through words. The publication Conversations with Architects. In the Age of Celebrity comprises almost six hundred pages and presents interviews with thirty architects which Belogolovsky conducted in the framework of his long-term, international activities as a curator and author. This began in December 2002 when he had the opportunity to interview Daniel Libeskind at the presentation of designs for the World Trade Center. Belogolovsky was aware that a turning point had just been reached in the public perception of architecture. Suddenly architecture was attracting worldwide attention. In his opinion, this marked the actual beginning of the phenomenon "Starchitects". Architects became acclaimed media stars, their buildings famous icons.

During these meetings, the architects speak about their ideas and what inspires them, recounting their successes and failures and the different ways in which their architecture is realised. Furthermore, Belogolovsky discusses the current role of architecture in today's society with the architectural theorists Charles Jencks and Kenneth Frampton. Numerous conversations brought forth a compelling book on contemporary architecture which breaks down the creative process of the global stars into words and excellent photos that have been carefully selected.

Included are interviews with the international architectural elite: David Adjaye, Will Alsop, Alejandro Aravena, Shigeru Ban, Elizabeth Diller, Winka Dubbeldam, Peter Eisenman, Norman Foster, Zaha Hadid, Steven Holl, Bjarke Ingels, Kengo Kuma, Daniel Libeskind, Jürgen Hermann Mayer, Giancarlo Mazzanti, Richard Meier, Paulo Mendes da Rocha, Glenn Murcutt, Gregg Pasquarelli, Joshua Prince-Ramus, Wolf Prix, Kevin Roche, Robert Stern, Sergei Tchoban and Sergey Kuznetsov, Bernard Tschumi, Robert Venturi and Denise Scott Brown, Rafael Viñoly, Alexandro Zaera-Polo.

Vladimir Belogolovsky, born 1970, founder of the New York-based International Curatorial Project which has organised and created architectural exhibitions throughout the world. Numerous international lectures, exhibitions and publications.
