Architectural Guide – Collector’s Edition

Twenty cities, twenty compact volumes, twenty years of "Guiding Architects": a globally active network of "leading architects" – in this case leading the reader through their respective cities – has published an anthology for friends of architecture. The Architectural Guide – Collector's Edition presents a selection of architecture from twenty mainly European metropolises and is edited by the founders of the network, Thomas M. Krüger and Hans Geilinger.

Twenty books – each of them a different colour – represent a total of 200 buildings and projects from cities that have produced outstanding architecture in the recent years. Each individual volume contains five highlights and five hidden pearls of contemporary buildings and open spaces. This reduced selection of a few projects per city enables the readers to get a quick and accurate picture of their chosen place. The individual booklets are an invitation to visit the respective city or to have more in-depth contact with it. In its entirety, one gets an overview of the current architectures of different metropolises, from Abu Dhabi to Vienna, Oslo to Doha, and New York to Moscow.

All the authors are members of "Guiding Architects" that is dedicated to the mediation of architecture, open spaces and urban development. The members are experts in the field of architecture and operate from their independent architectural agencies, in their respective cities. "Guiding Architects" pursues the need for explanation: clarifying the background, the concepts underlying the building, and the non perceptible, superficial view of our built environment. They try to formulate the right questions instead of giving wrong answers.
