German Architecture Annual 2025
The winner of the DAM Prize 2025 is an open house for cultural and educational work: the Spore Haus in Berlin by AFF Architects. Commissioned by the Schöpflin Foundation in Lörrach, they built a centre on the Hermannstrasse in Neukölln with seminar, workshop and exhibition rooms for groups and communities that cultivate a respectful approach to nature. The jury, chaired by the former Berlin Senate Building Director Regula Lüscher, unanimously selected this project from among the finalists. These also include: the experimental cluster housing Wabenhaus by PETER HAIMERL . ARCHITEKTUR, the general renovation of the student residence Sophie-Scholl-Haus by bogevischs buero, both in Munich, and the Kulturweberei by HABERMANN ARCHITEKTUR in Finsterwalde.
Since 2007, the German Architecture Museum (DAM) has awarded the DAM Prize annually to outstanding buildings in Germany. In addition to the award-winning project and the finalists, the German Architecture Annual 2025 also showcases the shortlisted buildings in and from Germany. In their contributions, renowned authors discuss in detail the 25 projects that the jury selected for the DAM Prize for Architecture in Germany 2025 from among 100 nominations. An interview is dedicated to lightweight architecture for shading public spaces.
The German Architecture Annual documents far more than just a cross-section of outstanding buildings from a given year. The volumes also show which building projects are currently of particular importance and are the subject of public discussion - because there are no restrictions on typology, building volume or use for the nomination. The broad spectrum of building projects can already be seen in the longlist, which was previously published in the Architectural Guide Germany 2025. As with the Spore Haus, circular construction and its impact on the construction process is becoming increasingly important, as is the use of sustainable building materials, conversions, and renovations.
